Fixing common printer problems

Quick checks to get a printer working before you log a ticket.

Most printer problems have a simple fix. Work through these checks before logging a ticket.

1. Check the basics

  • Is the printer switched on and showing a ready light (usually green or blue)?
  • Is there paper in the tray, and no paper jam? Open the trays to check.
  • Are any panel lights flashing orange/red? Note any message on the display.

2. Check your connection

  • Make sure you’re sending to the right printer — check the printer name matches the one in front of you.
  • On Wi-Fi or a network printer, confirm your computer is on the Nexus network or VPN.

3. Clear the queue

  1. Open Settings → Printers on your computer.
  2. Select the printer and open its queue.
  3. Cancel any stuck jobs, then try printing one page again.

4. Restart

Turn the printer off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on. This clears many faults — including the common “offline” status.

Still not working?

Log a ticket with:

  • the printer name or location,
  • any error message on the display,
  • what you’ve already tried.

That information helps us fix it faster.
