Emergency procedures

Know what to do before an emergency happens. If life is at risk, always call 000 first.

In any emergency — call 000

Ask for Police, Fire or Ambulance. Give the address, what happened, and how many people are affected. Stay on the line until told you can hang up.

🔥 Fire or evacuation

  1. Raise the alarm and call 000.
  2. Leave immediately by the nearest safe exit — don’t use lifts.
  3. Help anyone who needs assistance.
  4. Go to the assembly area and follow your fire warden.
  5. Don’t re-enter until you’re told it’s safe.

🚑 Medical emergency

  1. Check for danger to yourself and others.
  2. Call 000 and ask for an ambulance.
  3. Send for the nearest first aid officer.
  4. Stay with the person and reassure them.
  5. Report the incident afterwards.

⚠️ Other emergencies

  • Gas/chemical: move away, ventilate if safe, call 000.
  • Threat/violence: get to safety, call 000, then tell your supervisor.
  • Power outage: stay calm, use torch lighting, await instructions.

Before an emergency

  • Know your nearest exits and your site’s assembly area.
  • Know who your fire wardens and first aid officers are — see safety contacts.
  • Take part in evacuation drills.
  • Keep walkways and exits clear at all times.

After any emergency or near miss, submit a report so we can learn from it.
