Emergency procedures
Know what to do before an emergency happens. If life is at risk, always call 000 first.
In any emergency — call 000
Ask for Police, Fire or Ambulance. Give the address, what happened, and how many people are affected. Stay on the line until told you can hang up.
🔥 Fire or evacuation
- Raise the alarm and call 000.
- Leave immediately by the nearest safe exit — don’t use lifts.
- Help anyone who needs assistance.
- Go to the assembly area and follow your fire warden.
- Don’t re-enter until you’re told it’s safe.
🚑 Medical emergency
- Check for danger to yourself and others.
- Call 000 and ask for an ambulance.
- Send for the nearest first aid officer.
- Stay with the person and reassure them.
- Report the incident afterwards.
⚠️ Other emergencies
- Gas/chemical: move away, ventilate if safe, call 000.
- Threat/violence: get to safety, call 000, then tell your supervisor.
- Power outage: stay calm, use torch lighting, await instructions.
Before an emergency
- Know your nearest exits and your site’s assembly area.
- Know who your fire wardens and first aid officers are — see safety contacts.
- Take part in evacuation drills.
- Keep walkways and exits clear at all times.
After any emergency or near miss, submit a report so we can learn from it.
