Setting up multi-factor authentication

Register MFA so you can sign in securely from anywhere.

5 min read · Updated 17 June 20XX · For All staff

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds a second step when you log in, so your account stays safe even if someone learns your password. MFA is required for all staff from 30 June 20XX.

Before you start

  • Have your work login ready.
  • Have your mobile phone with you.

Step 1 — Install the authenticator app

On your phone, install the Nexus-approved authenticator app from your app store (the Service Desk emails the exact name and link).

Step 2 — Register your account

  1. On your computer, sign in to the Nexus sign-in page.
  2. When prompted to set up MFA, choose Authenticator app.
  3. A QR code appears on screen.

Step 3 — Scan the code

  1. Open the authenticator app and choose Add account (the + button).
  2. Point your phone at the QR code on screen.
  3. The app adds “Nexus Group” and shows a 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds.

Step 4 — Confirm

Type the current 6-digit code into the sign-in page to confirm. You’re done!

From now on

When you log in, you’ll approve a prompt or enter the current code. If you get a prompt you didn’t trigger, don’t approve it — report it to the Service Desk immediately, as it may mean someone has your password.
