Our commitment
Nexus Group is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all workers, customers and visitors. We comply with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and aim to prevent injury and illness by managing risks before they cause harm. Nothing we do is so urgent that it cannot be done safely.
Responsibilities
Nexus Group (the PCBU) will, so far as is reasonably practicable:
- provide safe systems of work, equipment and facilities;
- identify hazards and assess and control risks;
- provide information, training, instruction and supervision;
- consult with workers on matters that affect their health and safety.
Managers and supervisors must implement safe work practices in their area, act on reported hazards, and support injured workers to return to work.
All workers must:
- take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others;
- follow safe work procedures and use equipment and PPE correctly;
- report hazards, near misses and incidents promptly using the Hazard / incident report;
- never work under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
Managing risk
We use the hierarchy of controls — eliminate, substitute, isolate, engineer, administer, PPE — to control risks, choosing the most effective practical option. A risk assessment is completed for new tasks, equipment or changes that could affect safety.
Consultation
Workers are consulted through team meetings, the Health & Safety Committee and Health & Safety Representatives. Your ideas help us improve — safety is everyone’s business.
Incidents and emergencies
In an emergency, follow the emergency procedures and call 000 if life is at risk. Report all incidents and near misses so we can learn and prevent them happening again. Serious incidents are notified to the relevant WHS regulator as required by law.
Wellbeing
Health and safety includes mental health. Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers free, confidential counselling — contact People & Culture for details.
