Leave Policy

The types of leave available to employees and how to apply for them.

Purpose

This policy explains the leave you can access and how to apply, so you can balance work with your personal life, health and responsibilities. Leave entitlements meet or exceed the National Employment Standards (NES) under the Fair Work Act 2009.

Casual employees do not accrue paid annual or personal leave but can access unpaid carer’s and compassionate leave and other NES entitlements.

How to apply

  1. Discuss planned leave with your manager early, especially during busy periods.
  2. Submit a request through the Leave application form on this portal.
  3. Your manager reviews and approves the request; People & Culture records it.
  4. You’ll see the outcome under My requests.

Apply for foreseeable leave (such as annual leave) at least two weeks in advance where possible.

Personal / carer’s leave

Use personal leave when you are unwell, or carer’s leave to care for an immediate family or household member. For absences of two or more consecutive days, provide a medical certificate or statutory declaration. Tell your manager as early as possible on the day if you can’t attend.

Public holidays

You’re entitled to public holidays that fall on days you would normally work. If you’re asked to work a public holiday, you may decline if the request is unreasonable, and penalty rates apply where relevant to your role.

Unused leave

Annual leave accrues and carries over year to year. Talk to your manager if your balance becomes high so you can plan a break — taking leave supports your wellbeing.
