Duty of Care Statement

Looking out for the safety and wellbeing of the people around us — with everyday examples.

What duty of care means

Everyone at Nexus Group has a duty of care — a responsibility to take reasonable steps to avoid harming the health, safety and wellbeing of the people around us. That includes colleagues, customers and visitors. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being thoughtful and acting sensibly with the information you have.

In office and administration work

  • Keep walkways clear and report trip hazards rather than stepping around them.
  • Store and lift files and boxes safely, and ask for help with anything heavy.
  • Handle personal and confidential information carefully — lock it away and don’t leave it on screen or the printer (see the Privacy Policy).
  • Double-check important records and figures so others can rely on them.

In customer service work

  • Listen and take customer concerns seriously, especially anything about safety or wellbeing.
  • Don’t promise what you can’t deliver — be honest about what you can do.
  • Pass on safety, welfare or risk concerns to the right person promptly.
  • Record interactions accurately so colleagues can follow up properly.

In team communication

  • Share information people need to work safely and do their job.
  • Speak up if you see something unsafe or someone struggling.
  • Be respectful — psychological safety is part of a healthy workplace.

Reporting issues

If you see a hazard, a near miss or anything that could cause harm, report it through the hazard form. If someone’s wellbeing is at risk, tell your supervisor or a Health & Safety Representative. In an emergency, call 000 first.

The simple test

If you’re unsure, ask yourself: “Could this harm someone, and have I taken reasonable steps to prevent it?” When in doubt, check with your supervisor — it’s always better to ask.
