Bullying & Harassment Prevention

What bullying and harassment are, and how Nexus Group prevents and responds to them.

Purpose

Everyone at Nexus Group has the right to a workplace free from bullying, harassment and sexual harassment. This policy explains what these behaviours are, our shared responsibility to prevent them, and how to get help.

Definitions

Workplace bullying is repeated, unreasonable behaviour directed at a worker or group that creates a risk to health and safety. Examples include verbal abuse, excluding someone, spreading malicious rumours, or setting impossible deadlines to undermine a person.

Harassment is unwelcome behaviour that humiliates, offends or intimidates a person because of a protected attribute.

Sexual harassment is any unwelcome sexual advance, request for sexual favours, or unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature that a reasonable person would find offensive, humiliating or intimidating. A single incident can be sexual harassment.

Reasonable management action carried out fairly — such as giving feedback, allocating work or managing performance — is not bullying.

Our positive duty

Under work health and safety and anti-discrimination law, Nexus Group has a positive duty to take reasonable steps to prevent these behaviours. We do this through training, clear standards, safe reporting channels and prompt action.

If it happens to you

  1. If you feel safe to, tell the person the behaviour is unwelcome and ask them to stop.
  2. Keep a record of what happened, including dates, times and witnesses.
  3. Report it to your manager, People & Culture, or via the Grievance Resolution process.

Reports are handled confidentially and impartially. Support, including the Employee Assistance Program, is available at any stage.

No victimisation

Victimising someone for making, or supporting, a genuine complaint is a serious breach of this policy and the Code of Conduct.
